Animal Control officers are in action every day, handling many routine as well as emergency situations with pets and wild animals. One of the most important things that we do is to investigate animal bites. Animals that bite are quarantined and placed under observation to make sure the threat of rabies does not exist. Other situations which we investigate are animal cruelty and abuse, complaints of animal noise annoyance, unsanitary conditions, and abandoned animals.

The North Las Vegas Fire Department provides emergency services to a City of 80 square miles, of which approximately 40% is built out. In 2003, the Department handled 18,000 calls for emergency services. As one of the fastest growing cities in the Nation for the last two years, our population increases significantly monthly. As of January 2004, population estimates reflect 147,000 residents. The Department currently is rated as a Class 3 by Insurance Services Offices.

The North Las Vegas Police Department Traffic Bureau is currently staffed by 12 officers, 2 Sergeants and 1 Lieutenant. The primary responsibilities of the officers within the bureau are proactive enforcement, enforcing violations of traffic laws that are the usual cause of collisions, and the investigation of most traffic collisions, including hit and run, serious injury and all fatal traffic collisions.
